Ahmedabad: Apollo Hospitals has set up Gujarat’s first Advanced Neurosurgery Centre to provide advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities to combat neurological disorders.
This centre of excellence, headed by Dr Paresh Doshi, will offer advanced functional neurosurgery for complex neurological disorders including Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy surgery, surgery for psychiatric diseases like depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders, chronic pain and spasticity. So far these were only treated by medicines.
The World Economic Forum has stated the present decade as being very critical for healthcare, especially with the burgeoning disease burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Neurological disorders form a significant proportion of NCDs.
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are affected by neurological disorders. While around 6 million people worldwide die every year due to stroke, more than 50 million people have epilepsy.
Apollo’s Advanced Neurosurgery Centre will commence operations from Sunday at Apollo Hospitals, Bhat.
