Hand over groundnut procurement to NAFED

Rajkot: Former minister and Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd (GUJCOMASOL) Dilip Sanghani on Tuesday alleged that, “Good initiatives rolled out by the government are being derailed by the government officials and so the government should withdraw from agriculture commodity procurement.”

“At present, the State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation is procuring groundnut on behalf of the government and this should stop. The responsibility of procurement should be handed over to the National Agriculture Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED),” he asserted. Sanghani alleged, “After procuring good quality groundnut, the same is replaced with inferior quality groundnut by labourers and this can’t be done without the backing of Class I and II officers.” The sad story, according to Sanghani, is that the police catch small fish like labourers, “but never lay their hands on big sharks. This is a mockery of democracy, arresting labourers is not going to solve the problem.” On Monday night, a trader was caught by the district authorities with 1,000 gunny bags of groundnut while entering the Bhesan market. Apprehension is that the trader was entering into the market to replace inferior quality of groundnut taking advantage of darkness.

Food and Civil Supplies Corporation’s General Manager Sanjay Modi told media persons that, “It has come to our notice that someone had parked groundnut loaded truck last night at the Bhesan market yard and local authorities are inquiring it. Though Foods and Civil Supplies Minister Jayesh Radadia has assured stern action against those involved in the scam, CM Vijay Rupani and Dy CM Nitin Patel avoided any replies.

Huge scam: Kisan Congress leader Pal Ambeliya has alleged that a “Massive scam is going on in groundnut procurement; farmers are not at a loss but the State Government will suffer huge losses. This is because inferior quality groundnut is being replaced and good quality groundnut is sold out illegally.”
