Junagadh: The Youth Service and Culture department, in association with the District Sports Office and the district collectorate held a climbing competition at Mount Girnar in Junagadh on Sunday.
The contest saw participation by 406 athletes—including 94 men and 57 women each in the junior and senior categories. Female athletes had to climb 2,200 steps and return to the starting point within 75 minutes, while male athletes had 90 minutes to climb all 5,500 steps and get back to the starting point.
Morbi’s Bhumika Bhuta won the top accolade in the women’s senior athletes category, making the climb in 38.19 minutes. Junagadh’s Parmar Lalabhai stood first in the men’s senior category, with a 55.53-minute run.
The winners were awarded Rs50,000 cash prize and a certificate by Junagadh Mayor Dhirubhai Gohel and MLA Bhikhabhai Joshi.
