Need new UDAY Scheme to meet deficit in discoms: Kalla to Centre

Jaipur: Energy and PHED Minister BD Kalla has urged the Union government to allocate more targets under the Kusum scheme in the interest of the farmers of the state. He also sought a grant to install smart meters of electricity across the state.

Kalla raised this issue on Saturday during a two-day conference of the Power and Renewal Energy Ministers of States held at Tent City Narmada, Gujarat.

He told the Union Minister of State (IC) Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh that whatever goal the central government would allocate to Rajasthan under the Kusum scheme, the state government would provide full benefits to the farmers.

Kalla said that 30 percent assistance under Kusum Yojana will be provided by the state government, central government and NABARD, while 10 percent amount will have to be borne by the farmers themselves.

The Union State Energy Minister also discussed the issues related to the people of the state separately with Rajasthan officials.

The Energy Minister also pointed the need for capital investment for the installation of smart meters in the state by the Union Minister of State for Energy. “Around Rs 3,763 crore is required for this, if 60 per cent central grant is received, then this work can also be completed in the state at the earliest”, Kalla told the Union minister.

Kalla also underlined the need for a new UDAY scheme to meet the deficit in the discoms of the state and said that the central government should step up the hand of cooperation for capital investment in the state.
