Aamir Khan apologises for hurting sentiments and says he respects those who do not want to watch his film

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Aamir Khan is anticipating the release of his upcoming film, Laal Singh Chaddha which will grace the theatres on August 11. The film, which is the Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood classic, Forrest Gump stars him alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya. But the film has been subjected to immense flak and memes since its announcement, be it for its content, Aamir’s past comments or the writer, Atul Kulkarni’s tweets. This has raised questions on whether the film will perform well at the box office.

During a recent promotional event for the movie, Aamir opened up about the backlash and apologised for hurting any sentiments through his words. He said, “I am just keeping my fingers crossed and praying to the Almighty and I am having faith in my audience. Agar maine kisi ka dil dukhaya hai kisi cheez se toh mujhe us baat ka dukh hai aur mujhe maaf karna. I respect those who don't want to watch the film but I want more people to watch it.”

Many netizens made fun of the film after the trailer was released for adapting an Indian version of the legendary Hollywood classic that revolves around American history. After that, the makers were also subjected to trolling and the boycott trend because of the past comments of Aamir who called India intolerant. Several interpreted his words as anti-national and trended the hashtag #boycottlaalsinghchaddha. Twitterati also dragged the film’s writer, Atul Kulkarni for his past atheism tweets and called him anti-Hindu.
