"When you get a new lease to life, you respect it", says Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen shared on Instagram on Thursday that she had had a heart attack a few days prior. At Mumbai's Nanavati Hospital, she underwent an angioplasty and had a stent put in. The actress then praised the entire Nanavati medical staff live on Instagram for their prompt assistance. She also disclosed that her only request to the hospital was that they keep her admission a secret until she was discharged. She thanked them for honouring her request. Sushmita further disclosed that her main artery was 95% blocked and that she survived her heart attack because of her active lifestyle.

Sushmita Sen urged her followers not to avoid the gym during her Instagram live. Sushmita argued that it is untrue when she claimed that many of them would quit attending to the gym because they would believe it would not benefit her. She said that living an active lifestyle allowed her to survive a severe heart attack. “It (the heart attack) was massive with 95 percent blockage in the main artery, I survived because I kept an active lifestyle,” she said.

She expressed how fortunate she feels to have come through on the other side of this. She asked her followers to exercise and stay healthy. Sushmita noted that many young people are dying from heart attacks and that women need to be aware that heart attacks don't simply affect men.

Sushmita said that while it isn’t something to be afraid of, one must stay vigilant. “When you get a new lease to life, you respect it and are careful and that is when you learn to exercise and strengthen your will even more,” she said.
