Ayushmann Khurrana on Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's failure: India is homophobic

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Ayushmann Khurrana is known for his selection of niche films that leave an impact on the audience. Today, the actor is one of the leading stars of Hindi cinema with a major fan following. While, Ayushmann is always one to speak his mind, he also has never been shy to admit his failures and shy away from facing the truth. Recently, he opened up about the failures of his last three films, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Anek and Doctor G.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui that stars him opposite Vaani Kapoor is a quirky lovestory of a trans woman. While the film had received positive reviews upon its online release, it failed to garner audience in the theatres. Addressing this issue, Ayushmann revealed that because the country is homophobic, films like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui fail to do well.

He further revealed that Anek was a niche subject to begin with when it came to the tone of the film. Whereas, he feels Doctor fared well at the box office despite the A certification that it got.

Prior to Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Ayushmann started in the film Shubh Mangala Zyaada Saavdhaan. It was a gay love story that starred him opposite Jitendra Kumar.
