CM Shinde to get a smaller piece of the MLC nomination?

Mumbai: What Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari did has no precedent in history. He withheld the recommendation sent by Uddhav Thackeray’s government for 12 seats of the Legislative Council for more than one and a half years and in the meantime the government fell. Now the Eknath Shinde government of the state is withdrawing those 12 names and new names will be sent in their place. In November 2020, the Uddhav government sent a list of four names each from the three constituents of the Maha Vikas Aghadi - Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress - to the governor.

The leaders of Aghadi also met the Governor several times and the High Court also made sharp remarks in this matter but the Governor did not approve. It seems that the BJP knew that sooner or later the government was to fall, so why should the 12 seats of the Legislative Council be allowed to go to the camp of the opposition parties. Perhaps that is why the Governor sat with the list for more than one and a half years. Now it is being told that in the new list that will be sent, there may be eight names of BJP MLAs and four of Shinde faction. Think, where BJP was not getting even a single seat and now it will get eight seats.
