DGP’s file returned by UPSC after raising objections

Lucknow: The UP DGP’s file was returned by the UPSC after raising objections. The Uttar Pradesh government had sent the file to appoint a permanent DGP to the UPSC in the first week of September month. But the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has sent it back to the state government by raising many objections in the said file, after which a new problem has cropped up in Uttar Pradesh regarding the permanent DGP. Whereas this file was sent to UPSC to make IPS Devendra Singh Chauhan as the next DGP. UPSC has sought answers on the reasons for the removal of IPS Mukul Goyal from the post of DGP before the completion of 2 years and also sought the data of IPS officers up to 1992 batch. It is that when IPS Mukul Goyal was removed, why was he not informed. Moreover, the commission has also said that the DGP chair in UP has been vacant since May 11, while the commission received the file to appoint DGP in September.

The UPSC has thus questioned the delay in sending the file. Sources in the bureaucracy say that if the UPSC meeting is held after October 1 and it accepts the same date as the basis, then the service period of IPS DS Chauhan will also be less than 6 months because he will retire on March 31, 2023. In such a situation, he will be out of the race for DGP’s post. In the state government, officers are looking for answers to the objections raised by UPSC at the government level so that after the reply to UPSC’s questions can be furnished. Notably, the state government had appointed caretaker DS Chauhan DS Chauhan on 11 May 2022, replacing the current DGP IPS Mukul Goyal. Meanwhile, the state government is preparing to send a list of all the reasons for the removal of Mukul Goyal to the UPSC.
