FURORE INTENSIFIES AGAINST AGNIPATH

New Delhi: Nationwide protests intensified on Friday against the Central government’s Agnipath defence recruitment scheme leaving one person dead and 13 injured in police firing in Telangana. The reports of violent protests were received from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

AGNIPATH SCHEME

In Telangana, agitators vandalised the Secunderabad railway station premises in Hyderabad and set a train ablaze during a protest against the Agnipath scheme. In police firing one person was killed in Secunderabad, the first casualty of protests against the defence recruitment scheme. Besides at least 13 persons were injured.

As irate protesters, some armed with brickbats and stones, fanned out across large parts of the country, Home Minister Amit Shah and Army chief Gen. Manoj Pande stepped in to assuage concerns.

AGNIPARIKSHA OF AGNIPATH CONTINUES

Jaipur: Protests against the Central govt’s Agnipath scheme continued on the third consecutive day as protestors have pelted stones on the police, vandalised vehicles and railway tracks and disrupted traffic across state. In Jaipur, SFI staged demo at Rajasthan University.

In Barmer, the police resorted to lathi-charge to control youth who disturbed the railway traffic and also pelted stones at police.

In Bharaptur, a large number of youth sat on the Jaipur-Agra railway tracks and raised slogans. As the police tried to arrest them, the youth pelted stones at police. Later, the police fired the tear gas.

In Sikar’s Neemkathana, where the protesters ransacked the roadways bus.

In Shrimadhopur, the youth tried to forcibly close the market and clashed with the police. The police took some youth into custody. In Kota, hundreds of youths took out a rally against the scheme. In Chittorgarh, youth protested at the collectorate square and pelted stones at the railway engine and the police. With inputs by Mukesh Mathrani in Barmer
