Grammy-winning rapper, Coolio, famous for his song Gangsta’s Paradise passes away at 59

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Grammy-winning rapper, actor and producer, Coolio passed away at 59 on Wednesday, September 29. He was best known for his 1995 hit, Gangsta’s Paradise. The news was confirmed by his long-time manager, Jared Posey, confirmed Variety. Posey released a statement confirming the death of the singer which led to the pouring of tributes from the rapper and music community.

His statement said, “We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away this afternoon. He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly. Thank you to everyone worldwide who has listened to his music and to everyone who has been reaching out regarding his passing. Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

Several artists including FLAVOR FLAV, Vanilla Ice, LL Cool J, MC Hammer, Questlove and more mourned the loss of the legend. Even the singers and rappers who worked with him throughout the years shared their pain after his loss. Rapper Ice Cube tweeted, “This is sad news. I witness first-hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry. Rest In Peace.” Snoop Dogg too paid tribute to his fellow artist as he wrote, “Gangstas paradise. R. I. P.”

Coolio attained success as a rapper in the 90s and became widely famous after he wrote and sang the song Gangsta’s Paradise for the film ‘Dangerous Minds’ which starred Michelle Pfeiffer. It was nominated for the record of the year and best rap solo at the Grammys that year and won the latter one.
