LOP Danve ‘predicts’ rise of Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena

Mumbai: Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the state Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, exuded confidence over the Shiv Sena’s political prospects on Wednesday. He even glossed over alleged overtures from former MPs and MLAs belonging to alliance partners in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. “We are sure of the political roadmap, which included propping up youthful leaders to take on veteran rebel Sena MLAs like Sandipan Bhumre (Employment Guarantee and Horticulture Minister), who was made MLA from Paithan district in 1995. This resulted in his contemporaries being edged out in the region, while youth leaders like Manoj Pere will now take on a senior cabinet minister in the Eknath Shinde cabinet, come Assembly polls,” said Danve.

Speaking to mediapersons, Danve added, “You would be surprised to know that not only is the youth brigade within the Shiv Sena that is enthused by the sudden opportunity to prove their mettle that has now presented itself. Former MPs and MLAs belonging to the Congress and NCP parties are now approaching us for tickets for whenever the next general elections and state assembly polls will be held.” The recent tour by scion of the Thackeray family, Aaditya Thackeray, was immensely successful, said the LOP in the upper house at the Vidhan Bhavan. He added, “This was followed by the roadshows by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the same regions, prior to which, the administration strategically resorted to issuing notices to Sena activists asking them to leave the district that coincided with the CM’s visit. We will not be cowed down by such tactics and respond in true Shiv Sena style.” Danve introduced Manoj Pere, district president of Shiv Sena from Paithan on the sidelines of the ongoing Monsoon Session of the state legislature.

Pere said, “Even in the recent Gram Panchayat elections of seven-odd villages in Paithan, it is apparent that Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has won outrightly in three GPs. It was also able to elect three to four members in the remaining four GPs alongside alliance partners, the NCP and Congress.” The leader insisted that the results of 271 GP elections, that were held recently, were no indicator of true political representation. “In most cases even two or three candidates from the same political formation were found to be contesting against each other at the village level elections,” he said. Pere, however, exuded confidence over the Sena’s prospects, even if they (polls) were held in 2024 when the tenure of the current dispensation naturally comes to an end, irrespective of the scale of development works carried out by the Eknath Shinde led government.
