MAMATA’S OUTREACH TO PM MODI

New Delhi: WB CM Mamata Banerjee met PM Modi on Friday to resolve a few concerns of her state including over the GST regime even as the reach out by the fi rebrand TMC, using the good offi ces of Assam CM Himanta Biswa, is being politically viewed as an overture of friendship to the BJP.

It may be recalled, as exclusively reported in First India, that the Assam CM recently met Mamata Didi in Kolkata along with then WB Governor Jagdeep Dhahkhar over high tea, where he informed the Chief Minister of WB of the President of India’s decision to withdraw the governor from her state. The TMC CM had a very turbulent relationship with Dhankhar till then and was believed to be on the verge of initiating impeachment proceedings against him. Immediately after the Kolkata meeting Mamata Didi had indicated that she would abstain from voting against Dhankhar’s candidature for VP, as proposed by NDA headed by PM Narendra Modi.

The initiative for Friday’s meeting with the PM, however, is believed to have come from Didi’s end further cementing the Assam CM’s rising profile as not only the right hand of HM Shah but also, emissary of PM Modi. WB CM also raised the issue of rechristening WB as Bangla across all language formats besides another issue with PM Modi during her meeting on Friday. The WB CM was also scheduled to meet with the newly elected President of India Droupadi Murmu.
