Mumbai Police hunts for Dawood Ibrahim’s nami-benami properties

Mumbai: Operation Dawood Ibrahim launched by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has launched into the second of its laser focused, distinct operational phases. The two-pronged Phase II will see the Mumbai police commence the attachment of Nami (owned properties) as well as Be-nami (held in names of frontmen) properties of gangsters Dawood Ibrahim (designated a global terrorist by the US), his brother Anees Ibrahim and chief operating officer (COO) Chhota Shakeel in Mumbai and elsewhere in India. “NSA Doval issued the directives to the Mumbai police during his recent visit to the city, where he not only met the top police brass but also the political leadership of Maharashtra with separate sets of advisories, a person familiar with the development said. Doval’s meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has resulted in the BJP COO of the state also issuing orders on Thursday for a probe to ascertain the Dawood gang’s involvement in realty projects undertaken in Mumbai city during the 2.5-years rule of the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.

As reported by First India in its September 04 issue, India’s most wanted gangster, Dawood Ibrahim is not hiding in Pakistan any more, and is believed to have taken shelter in a relatively small country in Africa or Europe, where he still wields considerable influence. He is probably on the African continent in a nation like Uganda, Kenya or Nigeria, but could also even be in the south-east European nation of Serbia, according to a person tracking these developments. “Doval’s visit to Mumbai, a couple of days before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled politico-religious trip on Monday, is also the second phase of ‘Project Dawood’. It also entails sanitizing the Mumbai police department of the influence wielded by Dawood Ibrahim’s gang,” First India reported on September 04. With the MVA government’s collapse, NSA Doval has now launched Phase II of the project and an overhaul of the Mumbai police department is imminent as is the unearthing the realestate holdings of the Dawood Ibrahim gang in Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra that will be attached.
