‘NO RECRUITMENT RULES IN PLACE AT JUNAGADH CIVIC BODY’

Scheduled Tribe Welfare Committee called out authorities for oversight in its 7th annual report

Gandhinagar: According to the seventh report of the Scheduled Tribe Welfare Committee, the Junagadh Municipal Corporation ( J M C ) does not have recruitment guidelines in place ever since it came into existence in 2002.

The committee had inquired about the percentage of Scheduled Tribe (ST) community members on staff of various civic bodies across the state.

Stating its findings in the report, the committee observed, “Not a single direct recruitment has occurred at Junagadh Municipal Corporation since its inception 19 years ago.

It is an unforgivable negligence.” Remedying the oversight, new recruitment rules are being finalized, following which, proper recruitment procedure will be followed.

For the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the committee recommended that ST candidates be recruited by decreasing the cut-off mark. It also insisted on recruitment of Class IV employees for health departments of all eight municipal corporations in the state, on a permanent basis.

Putting in a provision, the committee also recommended that semiliterate people be allowed to apply for the vacancy on humanitarian grounds.

In Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), the report recommended filling 13 junior clerk posts in the next one to two months. It also put in a contingency to recruit sanitation staff directly.

The committee’s recommendation for Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) was promotion of employees to fill a total of 87 vacant posts.

“In case suitable candidates are not available, then these posts should be filled by relaxing work experience criteria needed for the job,” stated the report.
