Opposition’s puzzling silence on ED’s action against Congress

New Delhi: Congress is fighting alone against the ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) action against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Almost all the opposition parties have remained silent on this. Even the allies of Congress and the parties involved in UPA are not saying anything on this. Usually the opposition parties take a stand against the action of the central agencies and support each other. But this time no one is supporting Congress. Apart from the sporadic statements of a few leaders, the Congress has not got much support. Keep in mind that when the CBI raided RJD leader Lalu Prasad and his family in the past, the Congress had opposed it and made allegations against the central government. But Lalu’s family is silent in the interrogation of Rahul Gandhi and Lalu himself has not given any statement.

Keep in mind that almost all opposition parties are facing the action of central agencies. From Mamata Banerjee to Sharad Pawar and Hemant Soren to Lalu Prasad and Akhilesh Yadav to MK Stalin, all family members and party leaders are under the control of central agencies. Then the question is whether the parties are silent out of fear or are there any political reasons? It is possible that on this pretext, the opposition parties are feeling that if the Congress is upset then they can do their politics. It is also being said that even the Congress did not try to take the opposition parties along or for a common movement on this. All the opposition leaders had reached Delhi only on Tuesday to attend the meeting called by Mamata Banerjee but no one saw the need to meet Rahul and support him. On the third day of Rahul’s interrogation, Akhilesh Yadav made a comment in a shady style, in which he did not name anyone but said that the opposition should be ready to face the action of central agencies.
