TN Government exempt Nayanthara and Vignesh from the surrogacy controversy

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had every reason to celebrate the happy occasion of the birth of their twins. But it soon turned into a rather sad situation where the Tamil Nadu government had to look into their surrogacy process as there were claims that the couple did not follow the proper guidelines. But now after investigating the scenario, the court has granted a clean chit to the two.

Nayanthara and Vignesh announced the birth of their twin sons - Uyir and Ulagham through a beautiful Instagram post. However, as soon as the news was disclosed, it was surrounded by controversy as several netizens questioned the legitimacy of the procedure. The Tamil Nadu government had formed a three member panel through the Family and Welfare Department. As per several reports, the panel did not find anything wrong with the procedure and instead blamed the hospital that took care of the surrogacy procedure.

According to The News Minute, the report stated, "On investigating the doctor who provided treatment to the couple, it was discovered that the couple’s family doctor had provided a letter of recommendation in 2020 based on which treatment was provided." The members further stated that they could not speak to the family doctor as they relocated out of India.

The report revealed that the surrogage mother had come into an agreement with the couple in November 2021 and an embryo was placed inside her in March 2022. The laws of surrogacy were changed in January 2022 where commercial surrogacy was banned in India after The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021 was passed in December. The panel stated that as the agreement was made before the law was passed, the couple shall be exempted. They also scrutinised the hospital for not keeping a proper record of the procedure which led to the confusion. They have issued a notice to the hospital.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan welcomed their babies earlier in October this year. They recently got married in June in a beautiful star-studded ceremony. It was attended by some of the biggest names in the Indian film industry including Shah Rukh Khan, Rajnikanth, Suriya, Atlee, Anirudh and more.
