BOYCOTT! Twitter Users Trend Hashtag To Ban Kareena Kapoor Khan and Malabar Gold For Their Latest Ad
Kareena Kapoor Khan is not new to the sensitive religious sentiments that are hurt by a single word. The actress was criticized last year for using the term Bible for the title of her book ‘Pregnancy Bible’. She had then chosen to remain silent on the issue and the topic soon after died down. But this time, the actress has been caught in some serious fire as Twitter users have trended a hashtag to boycott her along with the jewellery brand, Malabar Gold.
Kareena Kapoor Khan was recently featured in the poster advertisement of the jewellery brand on the occasion of the Hindu festival Akshaya Tritiya. The ad displayed the ‘RaOne’ actress in traditional attire and heavy jewellery. However, what vexed right-wing Twitterati is the fact that she was not wearing a bindi. They trended the hashtag #NoBindiNoBusiness and #BoycottMalabarGold on Twitter as they lashed out at the actress and the brand.
The auspicious day of #AkshayaTritiya by having Kareena Kapoor Khan as a model with no bindi on her forehead. Why no bindi for Hindu festivals⁉️

Even author and social media influencer Shefali Vaidya supported the trend. She edited the bio of her Twitter and added the hashtag. She also followed the people who were supporting it.

Actors and actresses are a common target for Twitterati to lash out upon. This isn’t the first instance of actresses receiving backlash for not following the ‘Hindu traditions’. Recently Alia Bhatt was criticized after she was seen sans sindoor after her marriage. What remains a question is, isn’t the imposition of religious sentiments and traditions on individuals, forceful enforcement of a faith?
