Vicky Kaushal’s father, veteran stunt director Sham Kaushal got suicidal while battling stomach cancer
Mumbai (Maharashtra): Vicky Kaushal’s father, veteran stunt director Sham Kaushal recently opened up about his battle with stomach cancer. He revealed that he started facing stomach issues in 2003 after he came back from shooting the Hrithik Roshan-starrer, Lakshya. He began suffering from severe stomach pain during the shoot of Shyam Benegal’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and a day after Diwali, went to visit Nanavati Hospital. After an operation with many obstacles, he was finally diagnosed with stomach cancer. He was hospitalized for 50 days and was even suicidal at one point during his stay.
He revealed, “I had even decided that I would end my life by jumping off the third floor because I couldn’t live like that. But I could not get off the bed because my stomach had been operated on. I told God, ‘Please end this. I don’t have any regrets. I came from a small village and by your grace, I lived a good life. If you want to save me, don’t make me weak.’ After that, I was at peace.”
Revealing to ETimes about who stood by him during these hard times, Sham Kaushal took the name of Anurag Kashyap. Though stating that a lot of people stood by his side during those trying times, he particularly recalled one incident. He revealed that he had signed a film back then and during his treatment, he called the production house and told them to take back his signing amount. That is when he got a message from the director, Anurag Kashyap, who was himself struggling during those days and told him, “Sir, only you will do this film and we will wait for it.” And he waited. The film in question was Black Friday which then became the first film Kaushal shot after being relieved from the hospital.
The veteran is a big and renowned name in the world of stunts and action choreography and recently completed 42 years in the industry.
