Migrant workers stuck in South Africa seek help

Barmer: Twenty migrant workers from Rajasthan have been stuck in the South African country Congo. Out of total 20 workers, 19 are from Barmer while one is from Ajmer. Victim’s family members alleged that their employers in Congo had confiscated their passports and mobile phones and assaulted them brutally.

Meanwhile, on the basis of the family member’s plea, MP from Nagaur in Rajasthan and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party chief Hanuman Beniwal on Wednesday approached the external affairs ministry to ensure early help to them. In the letter Beniwal wrote to the union external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar, he mentioned the details of the victims and the company where they are working. He requested the ministry to direct the Indian embassy in South Africa to ensure the earliest help to them.

All the workers were working there in a supermarket on a commission basis, he added.
