ASKED TO LEAVE TEMPLE, PRIEST SETS SELF ON FIRE; 4 ARRESTED

Jaipur: After being under constant stress of repeatedly asked to vacate the premises by the temple trust, a priest allegedly set himself on fire on Thursday morning in Murlipura area, police said. While taking swift action under ACP Jhotwara Pramod Swami, the police held four named accused in the case.

DCP west Vandita Rana said, preliminary investigation has revealed that Giriraj Sharma was being forced by the temple trust to leave the temple. Disturbed by this the priest, Sharma, set himself afire by sprinkling some inflammable substance over him outside the residence of the temple committee’s former president Moolchand Maan, Rana said. Sharma sustained 80% burns and is currently undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital, Rana added.
