‘Conflicted’ Congress still strong in Jharkhand!
New Delhi: The ruling coalition of political parties in Jahrkhand has good understanding within itself, but it appears that one of the prime partner of the coalition - Congress- is marred with internal discord. From the day the government was formed, discussions of revolt of Congress MLAs are going on to the tune that every now and then minor attempts are being made to ‘hurt’ the party.
Just last week, when six Congress MLAs went to Delhi, a major panic situation gripped Ranchi and Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s entire administration was upset.
The departure of the MLAs was detected by the arrangements put in at the airport. The Delhi visit of the MLAs was well planned, and was found out at the last minute when the ticket and PNR check of the journey of an MLA was done.
It was found that three or four MLAs were ticketed on one PNR. After this the government was alerted by the administration and in turn, the Congress leadership was alerted from Ranchi.
This occurred after senior Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahai assured the MLAs of speaking with them one-on-one in Delhi.
Congress has 18 MLAs in Jharkhand and with their ambitions soaring the seventh heaven, four MLAs are doing all they can to be inducted in the state cabinet. None of the party’s four women MLAs have been made ministers and therefore, they are pressurising the party to let one of them be inducted as minister.
However, despite this, the possibility of party breaking away in Jharkhand is negligible sine there are at least six Congress
MLAs who have won from tribal and Christian majority seats and they know that it will be difficult to win on a BJP ticket if by-elections are held or if they go to the polls again. Because of this, only five-six MLAs are running to Delhi in the hopes of scoring big.
The second thing in favor of the Congress and the government is that there is no leader in the state BJP who can take the initiative to destabilize the government.
Babulal Marandi was included in the party by the BJP with great expectation, but after being elected the leader of 26 MLAs, he has not yet got the status of Leader of Opposition.
When there is no pressure on the BJP to make him the leader of the opposition, then who will try to make him the chief minister! Apart from him, the other three leaders are not MLAs.
While Arjun Munda and Annapurna Devi are ministers in the central government, Raghuvar Das lost the last assembly election.
