Raj heads for power crisis as demand soars

Jaipur: Rajasthan seems to be heading towards a power crisis. The maximum demand reached 15,111 MW whereas the availability of electricity was 13994 MW and the average demand was 12924 MW and 1117 MW power was deficit. The maximum demand had reached 15800 MW on September 8. What is worrisome is the post monsoon scenario. The total consumption of electricity in the state has crossed 31 crore units in a day which is 40 million units more than the highest consumption of 27 crore units in August. Sources reveal that the highest power consumption in August was on August 30-31 when about 27 crore units of electricity were consumed in a day. Whereas on August 17, the lowest power consumption of 19 crore units was recorded. There has also been a reduction of about 2000 MW in solar and wind power generation as both these renewable energies depend on the weather.
