Ramgarh Kunji Sunwas in Baran is 22nd Conservation Reserve

Jaipur: On World Wildlife Day, a new conservation reserve was announced by state government on Friday. The forest department issued a notification in this regard and announced that the new conservation reserve will come up at Ramgarh Kunji Sunwas in Baran district. Officials informed that this will be the 22nd conservation reserve in Rajasthan. The reserve will be spread over 3808.84 forest area. On February 27, the forest department had notified Jhalana and Amagarh as 21st conservation reserves.

Although Rajasthan has three national parks, four tiger reserves, two Ramsar sites, National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary, the introduction of Asiatic Lion and the African Cheetah could change the fate of the state.

Shergarh Sanctuary and Mukundra Tiger Reserve of Rajasthan are considered suitable for cheetahs. A fresh proposal is being prepared at the Rajasthan Forest Department’s level regarding this.

According to wildlife experts, Mukundra’s enclosure can be a better option for African cheetahs as it can be used as a breeding centre as well.

On the other hand, Dholpur-Karauli and Kumbhalgarh can be developed as new tiger reserves. Apart from tiger, panther, Great Indian Bustard, Indian wolf, gharial, river dolphin, some species of turtles, pangolin, vulture are in danger. Although there has been some increase in the number of vultures, it is not enough.
