Slack dist excise officers causing loss to exchequer

Jaipur: Wrong provision of excise policy and negligence of department officials posted in the districts have failed the excise settlement. Despite three rounds and 10 phases of auction in a month, 1891 liquor shops are still closed in the state. This has caused a loss of more than Rs 500 crore to the government. Now, despite the promise in the third round, disciplinary action is being taken against the District Excise Officers and Excise Inspectors who failed to make a 50% settlement.

The apathy and negligence of the District Excise Officers and the Excise Inspectors posted in various districts is weighing heavily on the excise settlement. Despite all the efforts, the wrong provisions of the excise policy are not able to attract the liquor traders this time. If the situation continues, then the Excise Department, which is always ahead on the revenue front, will be lagging this time.
