State to get new Information Commissioner soon!

Jaipur: The search for new Commissioner for the Rajasthan State Information Commission has been initiated as the current Commissioner - 65 year old Narain Bareth - retired on Friday, September 30. He was appointed to the position in December 2020 and at present one Chief Commissioner and 4 Commissioner are posted in the Commissioner. At present, former Chief Secretary of Rajasthan - DB Gupta - is serving as Chief Secretary. Along with him, a total strength of five Commissioners is working here, including Bareth, but with his retirement, one post has fallen vacant. The state government has already sought applications for the vacant post and August 26 was the last date for application. Sources reveal that more than a dozen applications have been received, among which are four retired IAS and 2 journalists. According to the Act, the new appointment is done by Governor and the term is either for five year or 65 years of age. The previous BJP government had appointed journalist Ashutosh Sharma as Commissioner and continuing this tradition, the present Congress government appointed journalist Narain Bareth as Commissioner. Hence the journalists who have applied for the position, are keeping their fingers crossed. Meanwhile, the file regarding starting pension of retired CIC and Commissioners is also doing the rounds in the government. According to sources, the file has reached up to the Chief Ministerial level for approval.
