THE ‘CHARM’ OF FOREIGN LAND AMONG RAJ BABUS!

Jaipur: 2003 batch IAS officer Pritam B Yashwant, who has been on a year-long leave, has now requested permission from DoP for foreign travel.

He had sought leave for personal reasons and now he is heading outside the country for personal reasons and not for studies or for deputation in a foreign organisation.

Word in the bureaucratic circles is that he is planning to leave the government job and enter the private sector for a better future.

Yashwant, at one point in time, was the ‘blue-eyed boy’ of the current state government and as soon as coming to power, the government-appointed him on an important and influential position of Commissioner Commercial Taxes (CCT) in December 2018.

Apart from this, going out of the way the government also handed him additional charge of MD of Medical Services Corporation.

During the first wave of Covid, medicines and equipment worth crores of rupees were purchased under his authority.

Then in July 2020, he was transferred and handed the reins of GAD and Civil Aviation Departments, but suddenly the government ‘parted ways’ with the blue-eyed boy and in December 2020, he was pushed to a rather cold posting of Commissioner, Departmental Enquiries.

Such was the state government’s displeasure that he was even declined the NOC for Central deputation. Realising that the time was not right, Pritam went on a year-long leave.

An almost similar case is with 2005 batch IAS officer P Ramesh, whom the state government praised a lot. In spite of Ramesh being a junior, he was appointed as CMD of Power Corporation and it was the time when he used to be part of the ‘power centre’ in Vidyut Bhawan.

He fell out of favour with the state government suddenly and he was shifted out of Jaipur. With the sudden change of the state government’s attitude, Ramesh had become so disheartened that he had even handed over his VRS application to Chief Secretary.

Although later he took it back, but in July 2021, he went on a year-long vacation to a foreign land and word is that he is also looking to find an ‘assignment’ for himself.

Then there is the case of 2004 batch IAS officer Ambrish Kumar, who for the past 17 months, is working as Project Director of a private organisation in Coimbatore and it is said that he is in no mood to return.

DoP has accorded him special permission to stay on his current assignment. In reality, Kumar has been in touch for a long time with Coimbatore’s Isha Foundation’s head ‘Sadguru’ and throughout his service period, he has taken leaves several times to head to Coimbatore.

His batch mates and colleagues are speculating that it may be possible that Ambrish may permanently ‘settle’ there. As of today, 2 IAS officers of Rajasthan cadre are on foreign soil.

A 2000 batch IAS officer Debashish Prusty is in Brussels since October 2019 and serving as Deputy Chief of Mission in the Indian Embassy.

He is likely to stay at the current position for a few more years. Then there is 2006 batch IAS officer Rohit Gupta who had taken two-year long study leave but when due to Covid the universities closed down, he returned.

However, in September 2021, he went back on a yearlong study leave.
