Art has always been an ideal way of expression. Often used to make a mark with paint, Women Depicting Women: Voice & Vision- an Art Exhibition exhibited a prime example of articulation through art. Organised at the Kala Srot Academy from June 22-23, Women Depicting Women showcased paintings on various overlooked societal subjects by women. Women Depicting Women: Voice & Vision was inaugurated by Muzaffar Ali, an Indian filmmaker, fashion designer, artist and cultural revivalist and his wife, Meera Ali, an architect and social activist.

The exhibition, an allwomen artists’ contemporary art platform was organised under the banner of Rising Beyond The Ceiling (RBTC), a social change initiative working towards the diverse inclusion of women in arts. With the main focus to introduce women artists, the artworks on display were drawn on the experiences of the women artists showcasing a range of stories arising from personal and collective issues. The exhibition engaged the viewer by presenting a contemporary viewpoint and commentary on gender, women's work, and pain.

The list included entrepreneurial and philanthropic women of Lucknow like Padmashree Awardee Malini Awasthi, ace fashion designer Asma Hussain, Renuka Tandon- Founding and core member FICCI FLO, Lucknow, Sahar Zaman, Art critic and Sabiha Hasan Sumbul, an artist among others.

On the second day of the exhibition showcased around 188 artists exhibited their work under the paintings entitled - Ill e g i t i m a t e , C l a i m i n g her Space, Life in Acid, Stop Child Trafficking, Anjaam, Right to Choice, Care for the Girl Child, Kushk Zubaan Bebak Jigar, I n v i s i b l e Truth, Gender Equality, My Body My Choice My Hijab, Scars are my Identity, The Voice, Humanly Tormented. Talking about Women's art exhibits moving forward, Farzana Shahab, Curator, Lucknow said, “We have received great feedback about this initiative, and it has helped several women to feel more confident in displaying their work to a wider audience and seeking feedback to help improve and grow their skills.

We will continue to organise such shows that help women speak out loud through the words of paint and colour and canvas.” Later, the event also distributed various awards under the category of RBTC Art & Social Change Award, RBTC Begum Hazrat Mahal Creative Award, RBTC Rummana Hussain Pioneer Artist Award, and RBTC Future Generation Art Award, awarded by a Jury comprising, of Farzana Shahab, art Curator, Sabiha Hasan Sumbul, Organizing Artist, Farah K. Usmani, Founder Rising Beyond The Ceiling, Sahar Zaman, Journalist and Art Critic and Meera Ali, Fashion Designer.
