THE BRAIN OF A SCIENTIST, HEART OF A HUMANIST AND HANDS OF AN ARTIST

Effective communication techniques in a healthcare setting have been developed on the basis that physiotherapists are in a unique position as part of a multidisciplinary team in that they can have substantially more contact time with patients than other members of the team. This means the physiotherapist is more appropriately positioned to develop a deeper patient-therapist relationship and in doing so educate and empower the patient of their physical condition and management. City First interacted with Dr Namrata Massey, (PT), MPT (Ortho), MIAP, born and brought up in Uttar Pradesh, now hailing in the Pink City, about her practice, physiotherapy as a profession and the challenges she faced so far! When asked about what led her into this medical journey, the passionate doctor said, “My family looks upto academics. My sister pursued MBBS and honestly speaking, I wished to do the same but couldn’t make it. Initially I didn’t know much about physiotherapy but with immense determination I explored the field and came up with enormous ways to heal people.” She further added, “With time I realized this practice doesn’t require patients to heal with the help of medicines and we could see them recover in front of our own eyes. No less than magic.”

When asked about her specialisation, Massey confidently exclaimed, “Being a specialist in Ortho, I deal with the accidental cases, implants after that, and what all is required to bring them into a normal daily routine. Therapies like mobilisation, etc help a lot.” Dr Namrata Massey runs her own clinic, PHYSIOTHERAPY & SLIMMING, near Hanuman Nagar Extension, Jaipur. She has always been eager to know more about physiotherapy methods and is kind enough to offer ideas on the best ways to help promote various methods to heal people. On further asking as to how she treats her patients, Namrata said, “I always believe in good communication with my patients. They heal equally with the words of affirmation and comfort.” She further added, “A physiotherapists clear explanation and expression of support could lead to greater patient trust and understanding of treatment options. This in turn may facilitate patient adherence to recommended therapy, which in turn improves the particular health outcome. Increased patient participation in the consultation could help us better understand the patient’s needs and preferences as well as discover possible misconceptions the patient may have about treatment options.”
