Probe Shekhawat’s defamation plaint against Gehlot: Court to Delhi Police

New Delhi: The Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday directed Delhi Police to investigate the facts raised in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for his alleged remarks about Shekhawat being “an accused” in the Rs 900 crore Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam. Meanwhile, Shekhawat has filed a petition in the Rajasthan High Court to avoid arrest after allegations were leveled by CM Gehlot. Shekhawat’s petition was registered in the Raj HC on March 21.

In the defamation case on Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, on Friday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court ordered on the matter that at present no summons will be issued to CM Ashok Gehlot. The court gave instructions to the Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police to investigate Gehlot’s allegations in the case. Meanwhile, the court has sought the investigation report by April 25, when the next hearing of the case will be conducted.

Notably, Shekhawat had filed a criminal defamation case and also made CBI a party in the petition. Probably now the investigation of the whole episode can also go to CBI.

In its order, the Rouse Avenue Court has observed that matter is of sensitive nature & thus the Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police will supervise the probe.
