The second day of Woman Up! Summit began with the ‘Woman Up! Brunch’ of traditional ‘Jaipuri Naashta’, followed by the Opening Address by Chairman, Jaipur Citizen Forum, Rajiv Arora. “After 70 years of Independence, it is shocking that we are having to talk about ‘Woman Up’. I have been fortunate to have the influence of strong women in my life. I didn’t think I would start with the jewellery business because it required much investment so I started with arts and handicrafts. When thinking of a name I chose ‘Amrapali’ who was a woman known for her beauty, talent, and intellect. She was also the first woman disciple of Lord Buddha. I have had the opportunity to don women like Deepika Padukone, Megan Fox, Beyoncé with Amrapali jewellery. So if women weren’t there, my brand wouldn’t be what it is today, neither would there be jewellery, beauty or fashion brands. The world consumes so much which is related to women. Even after that, we have to think about how to include women in the core segment of the country.
We are the youngest nation of the world which means that India has the largest number of literate youth at the age of 35-40 years old. However, women only contribute 17-18% to the GDP of the country’s economy. In rural India, 40% of women are working in agricultural fields but only 9% of the agricultural lands are allotted to women. If all women in the country start working, then by the year 2025, our country’s economy will be at an unimaginable state. If we need to make this our century, we need all youth, both men and women, to start working so that the productivity and strength of our nation can increase exponentially,” said Rajiv in his speech, addressing to the audience.
During the day, sessions by exemplary speakers like President of Gramin Vikas Chetna Sansthan (GVCS) in Barmer, Ruma Devi; professional actor and Kathak dancer, Shashwita Sharma; Secretary, Science & Technology Department, Government of Rajasthan, Mugdha Sinha; CEO, SHEROES, Sairee Chahal; Founder of Bunaai, Oridnaree and Wearlee and a former fashion blogger, Pari Choudhary; Bhanwari Devi, among others.
