Cancer survivors take the ramp by storm

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of  World Cancer Day on Tuesday, Ahmedabad Cancer Foundation and HCG organized a fashion show for breast cancer survivors at a city hotel on Sunday. The glittering show, which 17 cancer survivors walk the ramp with their doctors, showcased their grit and endurance, and the determination of the doctors who inspired them to defeat the disease.

The show also saw cancer survivors sharing their stories of dealing with the journey of being diagnosed with the disease to becoming cancer-free. The event saw an eclectic mix of women who beat cancer on their own terms, which included a 58-year-old who beat cancer and now runs marathons and a survivor who has counselled over 3,000 cancer patients.

An ode to their struggle and graceful acceptance, the show highlighted the indomitable spirit of these women.
World Cancer Day was institutionalized on February 4, 2000, at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium, in Paris. The aim was to promote research, prevent cancer, improve patient services, raise awareness and mobilise the global community to make progress against cancer.
