Jaipur: While the other ministers and MLAs were seen absent on the first day of the budget session of Rajasthan Assembly, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot held fort as he spent a long time in the house. Actively taking part in giving a befitting reply to the opposition’s barb’s Gehlot cut short BJP MLA Madan Dilawar’s claim that there was a derth of doctors in government hospitals and thus people approach quacks.
Informing the house, Gehlot countered the MLA’s claim and said that the government will take effective action against quacks while also announcing ban on advertisements promoting ‘miracles’.
Moreover, when the opposition tried to corner the government over locust attacks and the crop damage, CM also rejected opposition’s allegation claiming that the state government has done exceptionally well in dealing with the crisis. When deputy leader of BJP Rajendra Rathore accused the state government of failing in locust control, Gehlot retorted that Rathore was speaking without having knowledge.
“The union minister said in Rajya Sabha that Rajasthan government had done good work in locust control do you believe him or not,” Gehlot asked.
Interestingly, Gehlot, as always was the centre of attraction of all the MLAs in the house. The sheer excitement of MLAs on having Gehlot with them was apparent as the MLAs, both from Congress and BJP swarmed around Gehlot.
Rajendra Singh Gudha was even seen running towards Gehlot to greet him! Moreover, even deputy leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore called on CM at CMR in the afternoon and the duo met for forty minutes.
Notably, Rathore had gone to extend an invitation to CM for a family function. Throughout the day Gehlot met four dozen MLAs and minsters including BJP MLAs.
Meanwhile, later in the day Gehlot returned to the Assembly to chair the meeting of congress legislative party, after the house was adjourned which was held in the ‘ayes’ lobby. Gehlot presided over the meeting and asked party MLAs to prepare well to be able to counter the opposition. He also asked them to raise problem of their respective constituencies effectively. Gehlot also reminded the MLAs to keep note of their presence in the house and to raise questioned related to their constituencies. The Chief Minister also asked the MLAs to put forward any suggestions to him over budget and assured them that important suggestions would be included.
Deputy CM Sachin Pilot was not present in the meeting as he was out of station.
