Jaipur: Despite a ban imposed on mining in the 10 km range of the Sariska Tiger Project by the NGT, illegal mining is still going on in the area. In the matter, Rajasthan High Court has summoned reply by issuing a notice to 14 people, including Principal Secretary Forest and Environment, Principal Secretary Mining, Director Mining and Alwar District Collector.
The HC also issued a notice to 4 mine operators along with operators of 4 closed mines who are carrying out mining in the area.
The petitioner Kirorimal Sharma has requested a ban on illegal mining in the periphery of the Sariska Tiger Project while making the mine owners a party in the case. On behalf of the petitioner, Advocate Kaushalesh Kumar Bairwa and Anurag Fauzdar informed the court that Sariska Sanctuary in Alwar is a reserved forest area. Even after the NGT order, large scale illegal mining is being done continuously in the 10 km radius of Sariska, including Jhiri, Tahla, Baldevgarh and many other areas.
After the hearing, the division bench of Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice Ashok Gaur have summoned the reply by issuing a notice to 14 people, including the mine operators.
