Portion of footover bridge collapses at Bhopal railway station; 2 reported dead

Bhopal: Stairs of an overbridge collapsed at Bhopal railway station on Thursday. The incident was reported at 9 am after which 6 people were reported injured and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A portion of the shed on an over-bridge at the Bhopal railway station collapsed on passengers waiting on the platform. The shed and portions of the ramp fell collapsed and fell on passengers, injuring eight. The incident took place on Platform 3 at the Bhopal railway station on Thursday morning.

One of the injured persons was reported to be critical and was referred to the government-run Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, West Central Railway, Jabalpur, Chief Public Relations Officer Priyanka Dixit said.

At least 8 people have been injured in the accident and they have been rushed to the hospital. Sources say the number of people injured in the accident can further go up.

The Bhopal railway division has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. MP CM Kamal Nath, in a tweet, said he was saddened over the tragedy, and directed the local administration to provide all assistance to the injured persons. He prayed for the speedy recovery of the victims.

Railways PRO speak: “A small portion of the slab of the foot over bridge collapsed. 7-8 people were injured. There have been no grievous injuries, there is no casualty either. We will investigate the matter and action will be taken against the people responsible for it,” IA Siddiqui, PRO of the WCR told reporters.
