Till when will women stay under Ghoonghat?

Jodhpur: On the last day of his two-day tour of Jodhpur, the Chief Minister paid respect to social worker late Choudhary Laxman Ram Beda, whose idol was also unveiled by him at Bedo ki Dhani in Bhopalgarh area of Jodhpur district.

“I am happy to have come here. Laxman Ramji’s idol will work as a source of inspiration for the people,” Gehlot said in his address. He added, “Two decades back the slogan save water, save electricity was made popular, I then gave the slogan save water, save electricity and save the girl child.”

Addressing the women, who were in large numbers in the crowd that had assembled, Gehlot appealed them to end the Ghoonghat system. Gehlot questioned, “Till when will the women stay under Ghoonghat.” He gave the example of SP Priti Chandra, “If a woman from a village becomes police officer, will she enforce the law under Ghoonghat. Even former PM Atalji described Indira Ji as Durga.”

Gehlot also remembered Congress stalwart Parasram Maderana during his speech.

“It was your blessings that I could move ahead. All the demands brought to me have always been fulfilled. I have been Central minister thrice, thrice I have been PCC Chief, twice I have been AICC General Secretary and I am serving as First-Servant for the third time. AIIMS, IIT, NLU, NIFT, Indra Gandhi canal, and various other developmental works were done by us and for more developmental works we are mulling over taking a loan from ADB or other organisations. I would urge all the farmers to opt for solar power and install panels in their fields,” Gehlot said.
