Mary Kom slams Nikhat Zareen for demanding a trial bout against her
New Delhi: Two days after Nikhat Zareen wrote to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju demanding a trial bout against MC Mary Kom before India’s squad for Tokyo Olympic qualifiers is decided, the Olympic medalist has come out in the open saying, “Who is Nikhat Zareen, I don’t know her.”
“I am really shocked by all this. I have won eight World Championship medals, including six gold. Let the Boxing Federation of India decide whom they want. How can she cry like this? She cannot lobby to get a place in the Indian team. This is not done,” said Mary Kom.
The matter turned further complicated when Mary Kom hit back at Abhinav Bindra saying said Bindra should not interfere in matters of boxing after the shooter backed Zareen’s demand for a trial. The Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra backed Zareen, saying, in sports yesterday never counts. However, Kom said she will abide by BFI’s decision on this matter.
I’m not scared to fight Zareen in trials
“I am not scared to face Nikhat Zareen,” avowed celebrated boxer MC Mary Kom, saying it would just be a “formality” to beat her in the trials for the Olympic qualifiers.
Mary Kom found herself embroiled in a controversy with Zareen demanding a trial bout against her before the Indian squad for next year’s Olympic qualifiers is decided.
